That charge, like the rest of their complaint, is irresponsible and false. I helped form the organization because Santa Clarans care about our city and we don’t want an NFL team and its billionaire owner controlling City Hall. Unfortunately, that’s been the case since 2020 when Anthony Becker, Suds Jain and Kevin Park got elected, as the civil grand jury reported last year. Those three council members are up for reelection next year. Their complaint demonstrates how they are trying to distract the public from their actions t...Sharks’ top-six winger, pending UFA says he wants to re-sign in San Jose

SAN JOSE — Pending unrestricted free agent Alexander Barabanov said Friday he would like to remain with the San Jose Sharks past this season and gain some long-term security in the process.Barabanov is entering the second year of the two-year, $5 million contract he signed with the Sharks after the 2021-2022 season. He said he doesn’t want to dwell on what his next contract might look like, but he would like a change from the short-term deals he’s been on since he came to North America in 2000 as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.“I try to not think too much about this. Just try to work hard and do my job. That’s it,” Barabanov said Friday. “Because if you think too much, it doesn’t help you.“Of course, I want to stay here. My two babies were born here and I like the group here. That’s it. But it’s a business, so we’ll see what happens.”General manager Mike Grier said Thursday he’s open to re-signi...A's roasted for giving Miguel Cabrera $80 bottle of wine

(KRON) -- Wildfire smoke has slowed down or reversed America's progress toward achieving better air quality, a study by researchers with Stanford University found. By spewing plumes of smoke laden with tiny toxic particles, called PM2.5, wildfires have a "rapidly growing influence" over air quality trends in at least 35 states, according to the study published this week. Victories toward improving air quality over the past two decades were erased by wildfire smoke, researchers said."We’re starting to see the fingerprint of wildfire smoke on overall air quality trends over the entire country, not just in the western states where these fires are burning most often," said study co-author Marissa Childs. "This is because the larger fires that have been burning in recent years are lofting the pollution way up into the atmosphere, which can transport these tiny particles thousands of miles away."The Carr Fire sends a plume of smoke into the sky above Whiskeytown, Calif., on July 27, ...Video shows fans brawling at 49ers game

The Chair of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., was indicted Friday over bribes he allegedly took — in one case involving gold bars — in exchange for favorable treatment of the Egyptian government. The indictment says Menendez, through his wife, took cash in exchange for greasing the wheels of major arms sales to the Egyptian dictatorship.“Menendez has been feeding at the Egyptian trough with lavish bribes in exchange for pushing unquestioning military support to the dictatorship.”The Foreign Relations Committee reviews U.S. arms sales abroad and can block the deals. The indictment says, “At various times between 2018 and 2022, MENENDEZ also conveyed to Egyptian officials … that he would approve or remove holds on foreign military financing and sales of military equipment to Egypt in connection with his leadership role on the SFRC” — the Foreign Relations Committee. In exchange, the indictment says, his wife was promised money. While Menendez ...Three arrests made in boy’s shooting death that sparked New Mexico governor’s aggressive guns ban

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A third arrest was made Friday in connection with a shooting outside an Albuquerque baseball stadium that killed an 11-year-old boy and prompted the New Mexico governor to issue a controversial gun ban.Albuquerque police took Daniel Gomez, 26, into custody a day after two other men were identified as suspects. Police didn’t immediately release further details about Gomez’s arrest. Jose Romero, 22, and Nathen Garley, 21, were being held for the Sept. 6 shooting after an Albuquerque Isotopes game in what appeared to be a case of mistaken identity, Police Chief Harold Medina said at a news conference.Medina said the two men had argued with people during the ballgame and mistakenly opened fire on a truck carrying Froylan Villegas and his family as it was leaving the parking lot because it closely resembled the truck of the intended targets.“These cowards thought they were tough,” Medina said in an earlier social media post. “They killed an innocent c...Workers uncover eight mummies and pre-Inca objects while expanding the gas network in Peru

LIMA, Peru (AP) — Some archaeologists describe Peru’s capital as an onion with many layers of history, others consider it a box of surprises. That’s what some gas line workers got when their digging uncovered eight pre-Inca funeral bales.“We are recovering those leaves of the lost history of Lima that is just hidden under the tracks and streets,” Jesus Bahamonde, an archaeologist at Calidda, the company that distributes natural gas in the city of 10 million people, said Friday. He said the company’s excavation work to expand its system of gas lines over the last 19 years has produced more than 1,900 archaeological finds of various kinds, including mummies, pottery and textiles. Those have mostly been associated with burial sites on flat ground. The city also has more than 400 larger archaeological sites that have turned up scattered through the urban landscape. CHICAGO (AP) — Nick Foligno texted and called Connor Bedard over the summer, and the veteran had the rookie over to his home.It was a full-circle moment for Foligno ahead of his 17th NHL season.“It brings me back to when I was 19 and I came into the team and I had some really cool older guys to play with,” he said, “like (Daniel) Alfredsson, Mike Fisher and Wade Redden, and the list goes on. I remember going over to Alfie’s house and his four kids, I think I had more in common with them than I did with Alfie at the time.“It was funny to kind of go back to that and remember the feelings that I had and how much those guys helped me.”Through two days of training camp in Chicago, it looks as if Foligno is well on his way to becoming one of the team’s most popular players. He was among several veterans acquired by the Blackhawks in the offseason to add more leadership to the locker room and help with the development of some of their young players, namely Bedard. The chan...Latest news
